TORONTO - Fred (Scooter) Doty, a two-time Grey Cup champion quarterback with the Toronto Argonauts in 1945 and 1947, died Sunday.He was 90 years old.Doty was just five-foot-six and 140 pounds, but despite his stature he played defence as well as quarterback.Following the 1945 season he joined the University of Toronto football team where he was a conference all-star at quarterback for the Varsity Blues, but still managed to play three games for the Argos.Doty returned to the Argonauts full-time in 1946was a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and learned to play football while playing pickup games at the barracks in Calgary.He earned a civil engineering degree and was vice-president of Johns Manville (Canada), a roofing and insulation company, and president of Dufferin Concrete Products.
